Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd and safety Harrison Smith were selected 13th and 29th, respectively, in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft. Floyd was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals, while Smith was selected by the Minnesota Vikings.
Floyd is the highest-drafted player from Notre Dame since defensive tackle Bryant Young was the seventh-overall selection by San Francisco in the 1994 draft. This is also the first time the Irish have had two players drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft since 1994 (three players were selected in first round in ‘94). Smith will team up with center John Sullivan (’07) and tight ends Kyle Rudolph and John Carlson (’07) in Minneapolis.
