ND and UT Meet for the First Time Since ’96

The Fighting Irish take on the Texas Longhorns this week on September 5th at 7:30pm. The #9 ranked Fighting Irish would take on the #6 ranked Texas Longhorns for the last time in 1996 at Memorial Stadium in Austin, TX. The Irish pulled out a 27 – 24 victory over the Longhorns in the final minutes of the 4th quarter with a 39 yard field goal, by then freshman Jim Sanson. A rivalry that started in 1913, the Irish and Longhorns have faced each other ten times with the Irish defeating the Longhorns eight of those ten meetings. Nineteen years later, the matchup between these two historical programs will once again unfold at Notre Dame Stadium before a sold out crowd.

Flash back to September 21, 1996 for the final minutes of Notre Dame vs. University of Texas.

Tailgating for ND vs. Texas

Are you prepared for tailgating?

mc_10

As the team prepares for game day with Texas on September 5th, fans from all over will prepare to make their way to Notre Dame to spend the day tailgating on campus. As you begin to pack your cars, RV’s, and buses with all the essentials for the day make sure you know what to bring and what not to bring.

Tailgating Prohibited Items:

When planning for your tailgate, please note the following is NOT permitted:

  • Propane grills are permitted, but gas cylinders must be under 20lbs.
  • Tents

Have Fun!

At the end of the day, you’re there for one simple reason – to enjoy Game Day! You take care of packing the car and grilling the burgers. Our Guest Services team, parking staff, police officers, and University staff will take care of the rest!

Safe in the Seat

safe_in_the_seat

Game Day Introduces New Safety Initiative

Game Day Operations is committed to continually enhancing safety and security for all fans attending Notre Dame football games, especially for our youngest Fighting Irish fans!

As we look forward to the 2015 season, Game Day is proud to introduce Safe in the Seat , a program devised to speed the process of reuniting children (and others who may be vulnerable if separated from the people they are with) and guardians who become separated while attending football games by providing wristbands that can be customized with the child’s name, the guardian’s contact information, and the child’s seat location.

Upon entrance to the stadium, parents/guardians can obtain a Safe in the Seat wristband from one of five Guest Services booths located on the lower concourse at gates A, B, C, D, and E. Prior to games, wristbands can be obtained from NDSP officers patrolling the tailgating lots.

Guardians will be asked to complete the fields on the wristbands. In the event the child and guardian become separated, ushers and officers will use the information provided on the wristbands to reunite the child and guardian so they can continue to enjoy their game day.

Questions about the Safe in the Seat program? Email us at gameday@nd.edu

Previewing the Fighting Irish’s Upcoming Season

2015camp

Notre Dame will kickoff the 2015 season ranked No. 11 in the USA Today Coaches Poll. As the Irish look to open the 2015 season at home, they prepare to face four teams ranked in top 25 across the AP Coaches Poll and the USA Today’s Coaches Poll.

Notre Dame will open the season on September 5th against Texas, marking the first meeting in 19 years between the Irish and the Longhorns. Notre Dame defeated Texas 27-24 with a field goal in the final seconds of their last match-up in 1996. Notre Dame will travel to South Carolina for a long awaited rematch against Clemson(USA/12) on October 3rd. The Irish fell to the Tigers 16-10 in their 1979 game in South Bend. The 2015 match-up will mark the second meeting with Clemson in program history.

The Irish will return home for back to back match-ups to round out October. First the Irish will host the Midshipmen of Navy, who the Irish defeated last season 49-39 at FedEx Field in Hyattsville, MD. Next up, Notre Dame will welcome the USC Trojans (USA/10). The team will wrap up October with a bye week, followed by a trip to Philadelphia, PA to play Temple.

In November the Irish will head to Pittsburgh, PA to take on Pitt. Notre Dame leads the series 6-4. The Irish will then play Wake Forest in their final home game in South Bend in search of their third win in a three game series with the Demon Deacons.

On November 21st the Irish head to Boston, MA for the seventh Shamrock Series game against Boston College at the historic Fenway Park. The match-up will mark the first football game to be played at Fenway since 1968. The Irish and Eagles have met 22 times with Notre Dame holding a 13-9 advantage in the series.

To close out the 2015 season, the Irish will head to California to face Stanford (USA/21) on November 28th.
