Until now, there has been no easy way to compare democracies across time and space—not least because people disagree about what democracy is. Varieties of Democracy (V-Dem) is an ambitious international effort to define several distinct types of democracy and create reliable and detailed new ways to measure them. Join one of the project’s principal investigators, along with Notre Dame graduate students from Colombia and Turkey, for a tour of V-Dem’s many possibilities—and discover how it can answer your own questions about democracy around the world.
