Hesburgh Library and reflecting pool

The Word of Life Mural

Often referred to as Touchdown Jesus, the Hesburgh Library Word of Life Mural facing Notre Dame Stadium was designed to honor Jesus as Christ the Teacher in the company of saints and scholars throughout the ages. The mural represents the introduction to the Gospel of John:

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."

The campus and its buildings have many spiritually important statues and other pieces of art, plus places and spaces witnessing to Notre Dame's faith tradition, where visitors can take time to reflect and pray in a respectful environment.
